Meeting held with Council, Thursday 7th June 2018
Latest News Update
We had a very positive meeting with Stuart Crickmar and Councillor Helen Lewis with Julie McGrath of CTSI.
The proposal from the Council for the Civic Centre is due to two drivers – budget cuts, and the Community Empowerment Bill.
The Council intend to save money on no staffing or property costs for the Centre from 30th September 2018
They are “decommissioning” the leisure side of the Civic Centre, meaning the library and all the functions already available there, internet access, web4U etc will continue until this is transferred into the new school, due August 2019.
The Heritage centre will also remain as is, with the hope that it will become part of the CAT request for all of the building at a date in the near future.
We discussed what a lease or interim management would mean for us. Stuart suggested that rather than a lease which could involve legal and property responsibilities they were considering offering us an “Occupancy Agreement”. The details of this have still to be confirmed.
